Sea, Villages & Traditions
There are different ways to visit the Cinque Terre , the easiest being to go to La Spezia which is only 10 km from our location and park your car for free in Piazza d’Armi, 300 meters away from the train station. Purchase a daily train ticket which also includes the trekking pathways in order to enjoy the suggestive coastal paths that cross the vineyards above the sea. In the train station you will find all the information you require. The other solution is to visit them by boat, experiencing the exciting scenario of mountains that plunge into the sea whilst maybe meeting some dolphins along the way.
Portovenere & Lerici
In addition to the Cinque Terre we suggest two other picturesque villages perched above the sea. The truly enchanting villages of Portovenere and Lerici are known as the guardians of the Gulf of Poets.
Portovenere hosts the famous church of San Pietro overlooking the sea, the castle of the Doria and the church of San Lorenzo. A narrow pathway of gentle ups and downs meanders among the narrow multi-coloured houses. Long and steep stairways made from the local Portoro stone, a fine variety of black marble, are quite particular, as are the views onto the facing the island of Palmaria which is still preserved by building restrictions.
Lerici hosts a typical medieval polygonal castle, dominant on the rocky inlet promontory of Lerici. You can take a beautiful walk above the sea from the Blue Venus up to San Terenzo and maybe take a refreshing swim. Afterwards continue towards Tellaro, the village of the legend of the octopus, where all will be revealed upon your arrival….
Portofino and The Ligurian Riviera
The Gulf of Poets offers many possibilities for your holidays: you can easily reach Western Liguria in just half an hour to visit Portofino, (also reachable by ferry starting from La Spezia with organized tours) or visit Chiavari, Rapallo, etc.
